Dateline: Santorini

Our June press trips brought influential wine pros to Santorini, where they enjoyed a whirlwind (literally, if you know this island’s breezy temperment) tour of food and wine. Wine writers Tim Teichgraeber, Sheri de Borchgrave, and Elin McCoy; Bar Boulud sommelier Mariya Kovacheva, and bloggers Joe Roberts, Amy Corron-Power and Joe Power, tasted their way through five days on our fair island.

Here’s a preview of more detailed postings to come:

At Domaine Sigalas, Paris Sigalas led us through a vineyard tour

At Hatzidakis winery, Haridimos Hatzidakis led us through tastings in his ancient cave barrel room.

We visited the state-of-the-art theater at the stunning Boutari winery before our tasting.

We enjoyed the stunning view, lunch and tasting with winemakers at Santos Winery.

Winemaker and teacher to many, Yiannis Paraskevolpoulos of Gaia wines charmed us with his wines and enthusiasm.

Our visit to the Koutsogiannopoulos Winery included a tour of the charming wine museum.

At San.. Torini, we were hosted by the winery’s owner and winemaker—two young women mixing it up.

The barrel tasting of Vin Santo at Estate Argryos showed us why we welcome yet another year of aging!

We enjoyed tasting under the romantic arbor at the multi-generational Canava Rousso winery.

And at the historic Gavalas winery we were introduced to Nikteri, Xenoloo and Katsano—wines as exotic as their names.
